Description
of Project
For the
design of a metro rail system, it is necessary to develop a simulation system for
performance analysis. The software system is required to be able to calculate
the train run time from the starting terminal to the end of the run. The train
run time will be a function of many variables like track geometry, rolling stock
characteristics, signaling system parameters, external resistances etc. The
software methodology should take such factors into account. The program is
expected to represent the train run in a graphic form and also give the results
in a tabular form. It is required to plot a time-distance curve so as to get a
realistic assessment of the relative positions of various trains in the system.
It is also required to simulate a short journey in a small segment of the track
so as to understand the effects of some local constraints. The simulation
package should be able to consider various alternative design strategies.
The software
is expected to serve a useful role for Delhi Metro Rail system. It will be
useful for study of present networks and for planning of future networks. The
software will use available platforms of core software at IIT-K.
