Integration of Highways Design and Maintenance Model (of the world bank ) and Traffic Simulation Model for Indian Highways

Description of the project

An Indian Traffic Simulation Model for Two Lane and Four Lane Highways has been developed at I.I.T. Kanpur with the sponsorship of Ministry of Surface Transport, the World Bank, the Swedish Road Research Institute and the Australian Road Research Board. The field studies for this project were carried out by Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) and model development was done at I.I.T. Kanpur. The model has now been validated for different road conditions. A Highway Design & Maintenance Model of the World Bank (HDM), incorporating results of the Indian Road Users Cost Study is also functional.
This study aims to integrate the Highway Design Model and Traffic Simulation model. This will provide the appropriate input necessary for economic evaluation of the highway Network. The activities include:

  • Simulation experiments for sensitivity analysis of Traffic Simulation Model for different road and traffic parameters of Indian Highways.

  • Evaluation of traffic performance measures and estimation of various levels of Service.

  • Development of Program System for interaction of the various components and make it interactive, user friendly with graphic displays.

  • Test the performance of the overall model with graphic displays.
